Today I was shocked by a call from a former co-worker I hadn’t seen in eons.
I ran into him in a parking lot about 4 or 5 years ago, gave him my business card and told him if he ever needed real estate help to give me a call. I forgot all about that day until he called me tonight, asking me if I knew anyone who could help look at a house in a neighboring state.
Will it end up being a sale or a commission to me? I’m not going to be too optimistic on this. But the point is, the stuff you do today can bring you business far off into the future. My very first listing actually came from a woman who held onto a postcard I sent SIX MONTHS BEFORE she ever got around to calling me.
We always wonder WHEN will our marketing or networking pay off…many of us after not receiving a response by the next day will consider it as a failure. But if you think your networking and marketing attempts have been futile don’t give up – you never know what may come of it in the upcoming weeks, months, or years.

Did you happen to point him to NHS
I can’t believe that it did pay off. It is hard to track marketing efforts.
That is a good point but I would like to add that consistently keeping in contact with you base is very important.
I can’t tell you how many listing I have taken that as I walked into the kitchen I would see another agents magnetic business card or calender on the refrigerator.
Consistency is critical to long term success.
That is pretty cool. I have not gotten any of those referrals from long lost business cards but hopefully I will later. I have had a few that have been on drip campaigns for a long long time that end up buying.
Hey Ki, I’ve had some of those long time drip campaign leads call me up ready to buy and thank me for sending them all those emails. They act like we know each other and it’s been so long since I talked with them, or maybe never even talked with them and I can’t remember who they are. It’s cool that they actually thought I was personally sending each of those emails.
Couldn’t agree more, Sometimes marketing makes my phone ring off the hook. While other times it seems completely useless. Eventually all marketing pays off. I love it when people notice me shopping or walking down the street. “Hey your that real estate guy I saw on the internet” or “Hey you know that post card you sent a while back…”. My favorite is when they read the blog and know so much about me but I have never met them.
Consistency (ie drip campaigns) can make a big difference in the quantity & quality – it does all pay off eventually though
