It’s no secret that videos are becoming more and more popular amongst real estate agents. Virtual tours are no longer just an option, but expected. Many websites and blogs have jumped on the video bandwagon and it is likely only more will soon follow suit.
It’s not surprising – making videos is easier than ever before. You can use a camcorder that has a SD card that can go right into most modern computers or even plug it right in to your video ports if you have them. If you don’t have a camcorder, most computers sold today come equipped with video making software to create professional looking slideshows from pictures.
Once you get the basics of making a video figured out, the next question of course is what should you make a video of? Here are some ideas for using videos on your website:
1. About Me Page: Every good website has an about me page. Instead of the usual boring text, why not showcase a video of yourself? You can talk about your experience, your dedication, etc. Seeing you in a video could help potential clients feel more comfortable about contacting you.
2. Virtual Tour Gallery: If you’re looking for a unique idea, what about a page that only showed a gallery of virtual tours? This could possibly inspire visitors to look at videos of homes they might have not considered at first glance.
3. Video Blog Posts: While I wouldn’t reccomend making video posts more than once a week or every other week, adding them can help your audience identify with you on a more personal level. You could do a video of you showing them how to stage the entrance or room of a home or sharing some other unique real estate tips.
4. Customer Testimonials: A testimonial can mean a lot more when someone is able to see the person saying it instead of the usual “Suzy Q did a great job! – Bill W.” If you have willing customers who would do this for you, take advantage of it!
5. Local Event Coverage: While you might be a real estate agent, and not a journalist, if you are attending a community event, why not catch some of it on video to share with your readers? It’s a great way to show off how you get involved with your community – and your potential clients.
These are just a few ideas of unique ways to use video on your real estate blog. Have any other ideas? Share them in the comments below.

Using video for customer testimonials is a terrific idea. I have had great success with virtual tour videos before but never considered testimonials.
Thanks for the traffic idea. Now I just need to get some clients are willing to go on video for me
Yes, testimonials are a great way of attracting new customers.
If you would like to promote real estate blog posts, you could include Google Sketch Up models of condos or apartments you’re promoting.
This software is free and it’s very intuitive – you could create virtual real estate 3d models in no time! Just google for : google sketch up.
I hope this helped
Video is a powerful tool and when used properly can be of great benefit for sure.
Customer testimonial, especially done “unprofessionally” I think is one of the most powerful
I’m agree with your opinion that A testimonial can mean a lot more when someone is able to see the person saying
All great ideas. I especially like the idea of using video on the about me page. I am going to have to look into getting that going.
We usually do visual tours of the house and post it on our site’s blog
Videos are becoming more and more present on blogs and sites. In a short period of time, you will be considered an amateur if you aren’t vlogging from time to time.
I think video can be extremely powerful and helpful, especially when showing a tour of a home. But I also think it’s possible to overdo it. I hate sites that are too cluttered with video — they can be slow, and if I forgot my headphones at work, I can’t listen/watch them during the day at work. I get mad when there’s a story on CNN that I want to hear about but it’s only in video format. I think it’s best to still have a lot of text content, too, for people who aren’t wild about video or who can’t always watch it.
I actually think video is a great idea for selling properties too. You could link a video to any available property giving buyers a virtual tour of the place before they buy.
This is especially cool when they live overseas.
Video marketing is the way to sell. I need to get involved in this!
I am a BIG fan of using video to get your message across, regardless of what you are trying to sell or do. I recently made a post on my site about a new video tool that I think would work GREAT in the real estate industry. Check it out here: http://amalakifreedomteamblog.com/zrii-business/zrii_video/ Use this tool to create amazing video listings for your properties!
I would like it if sites that used videos would also provide a description of the video. Often I am somewhere (like a coffeeshop) and I can’t watch the video with sound. Or my connection is slow. For usability it would be nice to have a description or transcript.
I just started using video email. My clients seem to love it.
I’ve been using video for almost 2 years now. I just made a %7,800 sale last week to a couple who never even saw the home. I shot the video and sent it to them via video email. They loved the home. I can do all my own movie tours for about $40 per month. You can check them out on my site at http://www.tampa2enjoy.com > Featured Listing. Go to this site http://vmstreamingvideo.com/ > click on become a customer. Try it for 1 month. If you don’t like it cancel it. It’s like having your own T.V studio.
I have been thinking about using more video as a way to enhance my site and my listings. I guess the big question here is this:
Is a poorly produced video better than no video at all?
I have seen early adopters of the video in theirs site’s inject a little self deprecating humor into it by including links in their site that say something like this:
“for more poorly produced video highlights click here” I got a kick out of that.
I want to do it. But I want dont want something that is going to bring down the overall branding of my company and listings. It should be brand enhancing.
Now as a citizen journalist– you can easily excuse a poorly produced video.
Video is something we all should be taking more serious. People like to watch them and they should be fairly good quality or don’t bother. Youtube videos can actually rank and IMO is a great place to post them.
I have created this bit of a small advertisement about my site and I have also created a presentation video along with it. Discover the secrets to getting the best Paphos Developers. I have been using videos more and more.
It is good to keep visitors interests.
I drive it from my own server, which keeps the seo at home.
Very good ideas on this post! We use video quite a bit, and will seek to use the about me page video and the one for customer testimonials in the near future.
Dena, I am with you on video quality. Poor quality, I believe, can be bad for business.
