Something that is gaining popularity online are sites that offer to help buyers and sellers find real estate agents online. It makes it easy for the buyer or seller – they simply enter their name, contact information, and real estate needs and they are then matched with potential real estate agents to work with.
One example of a site such as this is Horizon Properties, a website based in Canada. This site serves as an online portal to help connect buyers and sellers with a recommended Real Estate Broker in Canada. It is easy for buyers and sellers to use. For example, if a buyer wanted to buy a house in Canada all the buyer would need to do is select to buy a house in Montreal from their list of popular Canadian cities and instantly be matched up with an agent to work with.
Most of these sites are free to use, but often ask for a referral fee from the commission of the sale for matching you with a buyer or seller. If you’re looking to find new clients to work with and won’t be significantly affected by a referral fee, sites such as Horizon Properties can be beneficial for both buyers and sellers but agents as well.
What are your thoughts on sites that match Buyers and Sellers with real estate professionals? Have you used any sites like these? What was your experience?

I generally stay away from lead generator websites. The only ones I would ever consider are those who work off of referral fee only. Many of the lead generator sites really don’t have much incentive to generate real leads and make their money off the up front and monthly fees they charge the REALTORS instead.
I agree Jummit. Always stay away from lead generators that require a fee up front are charging per lead. A lot of the time they end up selling the same lead to as many people as possible. An agent is much better off generating leads themselves.
I’m very wary of any real estate agent that advertises online. I like to see people face to face because it helps me to establish trust.
Online trust is harder to achieve because we cannot see each other. It makes it all much harder. Like the guys before me said, if there is an upfront fee involved, I’m out of there.

To address WPJ’s comments, the challenge for us as online marketers is to covert the relationship to a real relationship.
The first step is building the relationship on the phone. Getting them to see you as a resource. Then having them hire you as their agent. Does this site Horizons.ca work on up front fees or referral fees?
