There's never anything wrong with hand delivering anything ever :) That gives you a huge advantage since so very few people are willing to take the time to do it anymore.
A box would be more expensive over the long haul - but it can be much more effective if you've researched who you are sending the boxes too instead of just blindly sending out 1000 postcards!
Thanks for all the great comments everyone!
I like the idea.. but I am not agree about delivering the box to the prospective leads. It is time consuming.
Love this idea if it can be afforded. But why not personally deliver the box to prospective leads? I don't think its rude to drop off a boxed gift with personal marketing materials. Thoughts?
I think box is good. In these days we have to try different things to prove our capacity. Congratulations for the whole content of your site. It is really nice.
i'm not convinced that this would be cost effective over the long term. when i can send fliers or letters at a few sents (minus postage) versus a dollar or more, that really affects the bottom line.
I think the gift certificate idea is a good one but many people may not even read that email, since all of us are subjected to hundreds of spam messages a day.
Fed-Ex isn't a bad idea either - it makes you think what you are receiving is important. Certified mail is another idea :)
I agree a box would be better then an envelope. I once had a loan officer sent a refi direct mail piece by Fed-Ex I thought that was pretty amazing im sure he gets a 100% open rate...I mean who would throw a Fed-Ex package away without reading everything to make sure it wasnt important first....I thought it made me feel like this guy does things "1st class" I never refi'ed because of it but I do remember it 3 years later.
Would the money spent on a physical box and postage be better spent as an Amazon or Starbucks electronic gift certificate, sent via polite email?

In the Box Marketing
What I mean is try sending them a REAL box, instead of a regular ancient envelope or postcard like the hundreds of other agents are in your market. Everyone likes recieving packages and will open it – because they want to see what is inside.
It’s up to you what you place inside the box – it could be a small and sweet letter with your business card, or you can use something from out list of promotional thoughts.
It doesn’t really matter what you place inside the box – it’s the box itself that will get attention and get people to open what you mail instead of tossing it in the trash with the rest of the junk mail. It doesn’t have to be a huge box either, if you are concerned about postage costs – a small jewelry sized box in many cases will be enough.
